High profile Zimbabwean fashion designer and entrepreneur Farai Simoyi has been named as one of the top 100 most influential and inspirational women in the world, joining such icons as South African screen queen Bonang Matheba and American diva Beyonce Knowles.
Simoyi came in at number 33 on the list, with the American star coming 11th while the vivacious Bonang was 14th on the list.
The top 10 is yet to be announced.
The list was compiled by the Global Connections for Women Foundation (GC4W), which “believes in women and girls, and their rights to create new opportunities for themselves and their communities.”
GC4W is one of the leading international non-profits of the millennium in the areas of gender equality and women empowerment.
“From fashion designer to fashion executive, this global leader exemplifies the business of international fashion and development. Recently honoured on the pages of FORBES and featured by the likes of Essence Magazine, SABC, BBC, and The Africa Channel for her contributions to the fashion industry,” the organisation said in its statement honouring Simoyi.
“Reflecting Simoyi’s personal standards and need for quality and ethical products, is her creative agency, The Narativ Workshop, which works closely with emerging African Brands & Artisans. Also woven into her career experience is her passion for empowering women and young entrepreneurs through the global organisation she co-founded titled, BLOOM,” the statement said.
