KAMPALA, UGANDA – The 2025 edition of the Rugby Africa Cup is officially underway, delivering an action-packed opening day at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. Rugby fans across the continent were treated to high-intensity clashes, as national teams battled for dominance in Africa’s most prestigious rugby competition.

Defending champions Zimbabwe opened their campaign in style with a commanding 43-8 win over Morocco, reaffirming their status as a formidable force in African rugby. The Sables showcased their strength and cohesion, dominating all aspects of play.

Meanwhile, Algeria stunned Côte d’Ivoire with a resounding 41-6 victory. Algeria’s powerful forward pack and clinical backline proved too much for the Ivoirians, sending a clear message to the rest of the competition.

Namibia, another tournament heavyweight, powered through Senegal with a convincing 55-17 win. The Namibians’ combination of speed and physicality left little room for error. They ran in a flurry of tries to seal the deal early.

The final clash of the day saw East African derby as Kenya outclassed tournament hosts Uganda in a contested 32-24 showdown. Despite strong home support, Uganda couldn’t overturn Kenya’s early lead.. The Simbas’ held firm in defense and capitalized on scoring opportunities.
