Hennessy has once again turned heads with its boldest musical project yet: the 2025 Hennessy Cypher. Released on August 29 and shot in the vibrant heart of Cape Town, this year’s edition marks a glamorous evolution of the brand’s annual showcase—melding Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and Afrobeats across a captivating visual journey.
In a first for the cypher’s history, female artists take center stage—powerfully changing the game. Kenyan rapper Femi One and UK-based Ugandan artist Ms Banks bring fresh energy to a lineup packed with pan-African firepower: South African Amapiano maestro Kabza De Small (who not only produced but also features on the track), Nigeria’s genre-blending Blaqbonez, Ghana’s Afrobeats star Joey B, and Tanzania’s Bongo Flava standout Jaivah.
The concept? A metaphorical mansion dubbed the “Hennessy House,” where every room pulses with a different genre, rhythm, and cultural narrative. This symbolic set portrays coexistence over competition, spotlighting how discordant styles—from rap verses to deep, percussive Amapiano grooves—can share space and shine together. African fashion designers styled every artist, wrapping the cypher in creative couture that pays homage to the continent’s artistry.
Kabza De Small’s fingerprints are all over this sonic tapestry. As the beat-maker and producer, he anchors the track with his signature township sound—laying down Amapiano rhythms that fuse seamlessly with Afrobeats and Hip-Hop cadences. It’s a cross-continental blend that’s musically rich and culturally resonant.
“Hennessy Cypher is about creativity and passion for music,” says Vincent Montalescot, Hennessy’s Global Chief Marketing Officer. He describes the project as a “collective play” that brings together artists “disrupting genres and shaping culture across Africa and beyond.” The brand’s enduring mission? To support African creativity on a global stage—a role it has played for over five decades, even woven into Hip-Hop’s DNA with name-checks in thousands of songs.
At its heart, the 2025 Cypher is more than musical fusion—it’s a celebration. It elevates underrepresented voices, reimagines genre boundaries, and cements Hennessy’s legacy as a cultural blender, remixing sound, art, and fashion into one unforgettable statement.
