The Recording Academy didn’t leave Tyla on edge as the talented singer from Johannesburg secured the Grammy for Best African Music Performance in the inaugural year of the category.
Competing against notable artists like ASAKE & Olamide, Burna Boy, Davido featuring Musa Keys, and Ayra Starr, Tyla’s chart-topping single “Water” reached its pinnacle last month, landing at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“I never imagined I’d be standing here, a Grammy winner at just 22 years old,” Tyla expressed during her acceptance speech. “My gratitude to the Recording Academy for establishing this category. It holds immense significance,” she added graciously.
