Whether you’re searching for a classic comedy to share with friends or a feel-good romance to snuggle up with, there’s a perfect Christmas movie out there waiting for you.

Classic Christmas Films and New Holiday Hits

In recent years, Christmas films have exploded in popularity, becoming a genre all their own. Streaming services churn out festive flicks catering to every taste, offering both brand new releases and cherished classics. Hallmark alone has released over 30 holiday movies by early December! But amidst the new offerings, some classic Christmas movies remain timeless favorites. To help you navigate the vast selection and find the perfect movie for your holiday season, we’ve compiled a list of five cosy Christmas movies sure to warm your heart.

    1. Elf: A Hilarious Christmas Adventure

Will Ferrell leads the pack in this hilarious Christmas comedy, “Elf.” Ferrell shines as Buddy, an oversized elf raised in the North Pole who embarks on a journey to New York City to find his biological father. Along the way, he encounters a cast of unforgettable characters played by Hollywood heavyweights like James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, and Peter Dinklage. Since its release in 2003, “Elf” has become a holiday staple, praised for Ferrell’s comedic genius and its iconic catchphrases.

    2. The Polar Express: A Christmas Journey for Young and Old

Based on the beloved Calcott Medal-winning children’s book, “The Polar Express” transports viewers to a magical Christmas adventure. The film follows a young boy who boards a train bound for the North Pole. There, he meets other children and embarks on a journey of self-discovery and Christmas spirit. With Tom Hanks at the helm in the role of the conductor, “The Polar Express”. It evokes the same heartwarming tone as classic Christmas tales like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Carol,”. Reminding viewers of the importance of hope and joy.  Here are some comments about the movie from some reviewers.

    3. Home Alone: A Holiday Classic for the Whole Family

No list of cosy Christmas movies would be complete without mentioning the 1990 classic, “Home Alone.” This heartwarming story revolves around eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, who gets accidentally left behind when his family takes a trip to Paris. What starts out as a free-for-all for Kevin quickly takes a turn when he discovers thieves are planning to rob his house. Hilarity ensues as Kevin meticulously booby-traps his home to ward off the bumbling burglars. Celebrated for its laugh-out-loud scenes and its touching message about family, “Home Alone” remains a cherished holiday tradition for many.

Personally I still find the movie nostalgic taking me back to a time when I would have loved to be young Kevin, fighting off robbers and having a laugh, It takes me back to my childhood years were what probably mattered during this time was I made Santa’s nice list.

    4. Love Hard: A Festive Rom-Com Full of Surprises

Looking for a lighthearted Christmas movie brimming with charm? Look no further than “Love Hard,” a 2021 festive rom-com starring Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang. The film follows Natalie Bauer (Dobrev) who falls for Josh Lin (Yang) on a dating app. However, Natalie soon discovers she’s been catfished when she learns Josh’s dating profile photos don’t match the real him. Despite the deception, Natalie decides to track down Josh, leading to a hilarious and heartwarming journey filled with festive cliches and undeniable chemistry between the leads.

    5. Noelle: A Heartwarming Tale with a Unique Twist on Santa

“Noelle” offers a refreshing twist on the Santa Claus myth. This fantasy comedy follows the Kringle family, where the role of Santa Claus traditionally passes down from father to son. However, when Noelle Kringle’s (Anna Kendrick) brother Nick (Bill Hader) hesitates to become the next Santa, Noelle takes matters into her own hands and decides to step up as the next Santa Claus. Filled with themes of kindness, hope, and the importance of family, “Noelle” reminds us that the true spirit of Christmas lies in unexpected places.

So, grab a warm blanket, make some hot cocoa, and settle in for a cosy night with one of these fantastic Christmas movies. Whether you’re looking for laughs, heartwarming moments, or a touch of romance, there’s a perfect Christmas movie waiting to fill your holiday season with cheer.
