Chepngetich is ready for London , so brace yourselves, marathon lovers! The world record holder herself, Chepngetich, is setting her sights on the London Marathon this year. The Kenyan long-distance runner is fresh off an awe-inspiring performance at the Chicago Marathon in October, where she shattered the women’s world record with a blistering time of 2:09:57.

    World class athlete.

Chepngetich’s feat wasn’t just a marginal improvement; it was a monumental leap forward. She sliced nearly two minutes off the previous record held by Ethiopian Tigist Assefa, becoming the first woman ever to break the 2:10 barrier.

“The London Marathon is renowned for attracting the crème de la crème of distance runners,” Chepngetich said, reflecting on her upcoming challenge. “Honestly, I never thought setting a world record in Chicago was even a possibility. But that experience taught me that dreams truly can become reality.”

Chepngetich won’t be alone in her quest for glory. Joining her on the London course will be the formidable Sifan Hassan and fellow Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir, who holds the world record for the women-only marathon.

Jepchirchir clocked an impressive 2:16:16 in London last year. Unlike Chicago, where the women’s race is separate, London features a combined race with the men.

“There’s no doubt it will be a fiercely competitive race,” Chepngetich acknowledged. “Peres, myself, and the other strong contenders will all be pushing each other. My focus is on the best possible preparation. Who knows, with the combined strength of this field, maybe we can push Peres’ record even further. Perhaps the world record will fall again in London!”

Chepngetich’s presence in London injects a thrilling dose of anticipation into the race. With her sights set on potentially rewriting history yet again, the 2023 London Marathon promises to be an unforgettable spectacle.
