Sony, the renowned Japanese electronics giant, has made a strategic move to further its presence in Africa. The company has appointed Kwame Kyei Koranteng as an investment manager for its corporate venture capital arm, Sony Ventures.
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Koranteng is a seasoned investor with a proven track record. Before joining Sony, he honed his skills at Enza Capital and Chendaria Capital, two prominent Kenyan venture capital firms. His deep understanding of the African tech ecosystem makes him a valuable asset to Sony’s Africa fund.
Prior to Koranteng’s appointment, Sony’s Africa fund was managed by the European team, who partnered with the International Finance Corporation to identify promising investment opportunities. However, with Koranteng at the helm, Sony aims to accelerate its investment activities in Africa.
Sony Ventures, established in 2016, boasts a $430 million fund and a global team of investment professionals. The firm actively seeks out early-stage startups that are revolutionizing entertainment, fintech, enterprise software, deeptech, and climatetech. With Koranteng’s expertise, Sony Ventures is poised to unlock the immense potential of the African tech scene.
